Dear Miss Amazing participants,

Greetings all,

My name is Katy Mertens and I am a full time student at the University of South Dakota where I am President of Council for Exceptional Children, an organization on campus that promotes Special Education. I am currently studying Elementary Education and Special Education, both of which I am extremely passionate about. I first heard about Miss Amazing during my freshman year of college through CEC, and right away I knew that I wanted to be involved. During that year, I organized a dress drive for South Dakota Miss Amazing in hopes of helping the participants and their families out financially. My dress drive grew very quickly and I ended up raising just over 60 dresses for the participants. After the dress drive, I knew that I wanted to be a “buddy” during the program. I loved every minute of the day and soon realized that for me it was more than just being a volunteer, it was a passion. I strongly believe that girls and women of all abilities deserve to feel confident and I think that Miss Amazing does a really good job at helping them with that. I can not wait to watch this program grow, and I am more than excited to be a part of the Miss Amazing team.
